Currently, in order to use the web version of WhatsApp, we need to open the web option from our mobile app. That feature was released in 2015 and requires phone app permission to work on the web version.

WhatsApp Web may soon work without a smartphone

The WABetaInfo has tweeted recently that the WhatsApp company might be working on a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app as a standalone service. It also features a new multi-platform system that would work even when your phone is switched off. That’s a great move by the developers. The WhatsApp multi-platform system will allow users to access their chats and profiles on more than one device with the same account without any issue. Currently, users can’t use their WhatsApp account for more than one mobile device at the same time. It will come in handy for multiple device users. The multi-platform system should work in synchronization mode with WhatsApp’s UWP also. It will offer users a standard chat interface with the same account on different devices.
